GRIT & GLUE.

In 2020, I began collecting street posters in their rawest form directly from structures in San Francisco and Oakland to repurpose into the foundational layer of my work. At first glance, these papers may seem like discarded materials of urban life. To me, these humble materials represent something else - a communal rendition of memory. Each poster is evidence of a collective experience in a specific moment in time. The advertisements are often pasted to an abandoned structure with its own unique Bay Area history. These materials provide a wealth of texture and information indicative of the landscape they were harvested from. The result is a visual language that is simultaneously historic, multi-layered and deconstructed.
